Workcation - Finding boundaries between work and leisure in 2025

Since the pandemic, most companies have allowed their employees to work remotely. Managing inboxes, leading Zoom meetings, reviewing articles, or analyzing spreadsheets, most of today’s corporate work can be done anywhere, as long as you have your computer. So why not work from a seaside terrace? Or another country?

Workcations – short for work and vacations, is a growing trend of professionals taking extended trips, where they spend their days working remotely and their nights exploring a new country or relaxing in a resort. This phenomenon seems to be here to stay, and, according to Booking, over 68% of global workers are now interested in working from somewhere new. It is not about escaping work, but about reimagining where and how we work.

For the hospitality industry, this trend represents a unique opportunity. Workcationers are not just weekenders or vacationers: they travel off-peak, stay longer, and mostly indoors. Nonetheless, they come with very specific needs, such as high-speed Wi-Fi, quiet areas, power outlets, ergonomic chairs, wide desks, or even meeting rooms. They also tend to make the most out of the hotel’s facilities, such as lounges, spas, or gyms.

In the last few years, Pullman Hotels & Resorts, part of Accor’s Premium Division, has evolved to offer the perfect workcations, a move that’s already paying off. With destinations like Pullman Reef Hotel Casino and Pullman Palm Cove, the brand blends luxury, productivity, and leisure. It offers all the tools needed to work comfortably while enjoying local experiences. Extensive conference facilities, airport proximity, HIIT classes, and inventive room service count within Pullman’s best moves in the creation of convenient and productive workcations. These amenities are surely a key reason for Accor’s Premium, Midscale, and Economy (PM&E) division’s 4% increase in RevPAR for the year 2024.

As the boundaries between work and leisure continue to blur, hotels that create spaces where guests can live, work, and unwind will stand out. The future belongs to those who don’t just accommodate workcations but design for them.

Word of the Month

Noctourism (noun): The recent trend of exploring the world after dark…

This is for all the night owls out there. Noctourism revolves around those experiences after dark, indulging in nighttime escapades like stargazing in the desert, exploring the lively night markets, or just biking around the island under the moonlight. More and more destinations are embracing this trend of offering experiences that go beyond bars and nightclubs, from night museum tours to glow-in-the-dark kayaking adventures. I mean, why should the fun stop when the sun goes down?
